About
Direcat is a Brooklyn based singer-songwriter / computer scientist / math nerd / cat lady, who most of the time goes by Tess.
Tess was lucky enough to be born into a house with cats (... and dogs... and a smattering of gerbils... and sometimes fish). Her first toy was named Meow: an orange tabby who has since lost one eye, to an unfortunate incident with the family bulldog, Buster.
Growing up in Manhattan, Tess was exposed to Broadway and pop music at a young age. She started classical piano lessons at age 5, but quickly abandoned the music her teacher, Elena, brought her. Elena later revealed she initially believed Tess would be completely incompetent (not completely untrue) - mainly due to the fact that she refused to play anything other than Mamma Mia, Les Miserable, Vanessa Carlton, and Evanescence for her first (multiple) year(s) of lessons.
Naturally, Tess is now marrying her two favorite things - music and cats - to create Direcat. A "band" whose "brand" is mainly just her cat, Ethel. (Harold was not interested in the part).
